Pilates Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should I wear?

We recommend wearing clothing that is comfortable for you to work out in. Try to avoid over-sized attire that would make it difficult for the instructor to observe and correct your form during the class. Pilates is usually practised barefoot or in socks, and clients are requested to remove watches and jewellery.

  • Do I need to bring my own mat?

You’re welcome to bring your own mat, but you may prefer to use ours. We provide responsibly-sourced Ekotex mats which are manufactured in Germany to the highest standards. They’re made of non-toxic PVC and are free of harmful substances.

Hygienic wipes are provided free-of-charge for all classes and we encourage students to use mat towels which can be purchased from reception.

  • How do I know which class level to attend?

For students new to Pilates we recommend our Level 1 classes which are designed for beginners. Once familiar with the Pilates method, students are welcome to join our Level 2 classes. Our Level 3 classes are designed for students with more extensive Pilates experience looking for a more challenging workout.

  • How do I book a one-on-one session?

Please contact reception to book one-on-one training sessions.

  • Do you have classes for beginners?

We run six-week beginners courses throughout the year designed to introduce new students to the fundamentals of Pilates. To check when the next course starts, click here. We also run numerous Basic Pilates classes throughout the week which are also suitable for beginners.

  • Can I do Pilates if I'm pregnant?

Pilates is one of the better exercise programmes for pregnant women. It is not advisable however to practise Pilates during the first trimetster, and during the second and third trimesters there are very important precautions to take such as avoiding inverted positions and compressing the abdomen. We recommend that you consult your doctor first and only practice under the supervision of teachers with pre-natal experience (please check with reception).

At Embody we do not offer a Pregnancy Pilates class, however a number of our One-on-One instructors are Pre & Postnatal trained and available for single and/or small group sessions by appointment.

  • Do you supply towels?

We do not supply towels but you are very welcome to bring your own to classes. For hygiene we encourage the use of mat towels which can be purchased from reception

  • Do I need to reserve for a class before I come?

Pre-booking your place in a class is optional however for busier classes it is recommended to avoid disappointment. You’ll find our online booking system easy and efficient with classes available to book up to 2 weeks in advance and up to 2 hours before start-time.

Those using class credits may cancel a pre-booked class up to two hours before the class start-time with no penalty credits being deducted. It is important to note that all pre-bookings are considered confirmed two hours prior to the class start time. At this point it is no longer possible to cancel your pre-booking and the relevant number of credits will be deducted from your pass even if you do not attend the class.

In addition, if you do not check in with reception at least five minutes before the start of the class your place may be forfeited and your pass still debited. Please note that entry to a class is not permitted 5 minutes after the class commences.

Those attending classes using an unlimited pass are subject to the same cancellation rules. Failure on more than three occasions to cancel a class booking at least two hours in advance of the class will forfeit your right to purchase any further unlimited passes.

  • How soon before my class should I arrive?

We recommend arriving 10 minutes before the start of your class (longer if you need to use our changing rooms). Please note that entry to a class is not permitted 5 minutes after the class commences.

  • What is your cancellation policy for classes?

You may cancel a pre-booked class up to 2 hours before the class start-time. Cancellations or no-shows after that time are fully chargeable.

  • Are children allowed to attend classes?
