Sound Baths - sooth , relax and melt into the heavenly bliss of quartz crystals and gong vibrations - Embody Wellness Blog

As Sound Baths grow more popular in the West, Inner Sounds Yoga takes a closer look at the appeal of this once niche, now, ever-more mainstream form of therapy.

About Sound Baths

Consider the concentric circles as a pebble lands on a still lake. Our bodies are made of 70% water and are ideal conductors for the gong’s and crystal bowls vibrational energy. Now imagine the same rippling effect as soothing, meditative sound waves reverberate throughout your entire body.

Research by oncologist Dr. Mitchell L. Gaynor MD, indicates that sound healing can lower blood pressure, reduce cardiac disease, improve immunity, significantly reduce cortisol and other stress hormones, stabilize your mood, give you better sleep, and counter chemotherapy effects.

Receiving sounds is open to all, any age, any ability, any condition, no flexibility or yoga experience required.  All that is needed is expanded openness and an invitation for your inner sounds to manifest into being.

The term sound bath is used to describe this immersive vibrational experience of pure sound, it feels as though you are being “bathed” in sound waves and vibration from Paiste planetary gongs and quartz crystal singing bowls.

For some, a sound bath is an improvised concert while others will find the sound to be deeply healing.

The cocoon of vibration and slow sound waves scientifically soothes your nervous system and reduces stress through a process called entrainment.

Your brainwaves naturally synchronize with the slow sound waves and you’ll gain immediate access to similar states found with 10 plus years of consistent deep meditation.

No more staring at a wall trying to meditate!

Participate in a sound bath and gain access to deeper states of consciousness instantaneously.  Buried within this unexplored place, you’ll find clarity, release, and profound awakenings.

Sound baths infuse your body with ancient healing power of sound used in ritual and ceremony for thousands of years.  Pure sound, rather than music or melodies, is reminiscent of our cosmic beginnings and influences your emotions, mind and spirit unlike any other input.

Expect the unexpected, experience the unimagined in this open field of possibility.

Who can come and what do I do during a sound bath?

The wondrous thing about sound baths is virtually anyone can participate, regardless of age, ability level- no flexibility required!  Anyone that can lie back and relax, can and will experience the deep meditative benefits of a sound bath.  Simply lie on your back in a supported position or, if desired, seated or in a chair and receive this powerful, ancient healing modality.

Dress comfortably and feel free to bring your favorite props, like a mat/blanket/or eyepillow so you can be as comfortable as possible. Generally, deep states of relaxation are achieved and some people fall into a restful sleep. Be open and ready for something completely new.

About the Instruments

Quartz crystal singing bowls have no grain boundary, as in no other molecular structures interfere with their frequency enabling them to resonate strongly for their size. Quartz is the second most abundant mineral, has a high melting point, is not readily affected by moisture or by temperature changes and can generate an electric current. The vibrational overtones and harmonics formed in crystal bowls and gongs create supreme relaxation as brain waves are entrained to theta levels.

Gongs have been used for over 5,000 years for healing, ritual, ceremony, communication, music, and as status symbols. Their sound envelope is unpredictable, creating a “resound” as sound waves reverberate back and forth. Through the resound, the gongs produce an intricate synthesis of blended overtones as the returning waves of sound build upon one another. The gong sound becomes so complex, it begins to resemble a variety of instruments played at once and the brain struggles to categorize it.  Our brainwaves “entrain” to the slower frequency and the sounds literally slow down our thoughts and harness our monkey minds into slower, meditative states and new neural pathways and brainwave patterns are created. Paiste gongs are handmade in Germany and tuned to the orbital properties of each planet, giving each gong a unique note and cosmic sound.
